  • Understanding attendance laws:

State law requires students to be in attendance 90% of the school days in order to gain credit for classes.

Students not in attendance for 90% must complete make up hours to gain credit for courses in which attendance fell below 90%.  A tardy 20 minutes or later to class counts as an absence to that class for attendance reporting.

So what is the difference between excused and unexcused:

Athough both require make up hours if over the 90% threshold, unexcused absences result in zeros for assignments that are to be turn in or assigned on the day of the unexcused absence.

How does this work with COVID?

All COVID related abesences are excused absences but the student may need to make up attendance hours after school or during summer school should thier overall attendance fall below the 90% rule.
